Our work at The Old Workhouse in Pateley Bridge, Nidderdale, included the design of interpretation panels, supporting signage, branding and printed materials that bring the site’s complex social history to life.
The interpretation explores the building’s past through a series of themed panels, including “Art in Action” and “Living History”, each focusing on different aspects of the workhouse experience. These combine narrative storytelling with imagery and carefully structured content to make historical information accessible and engaging for a wide audience.
A key part of the project was the development of a distinctive visual identity for The Old Workhouse, including logo design and a consistent graphic language applied across panels, signage and supporting materials. This helps unify the visitor experience and strengthen recognition of the site.
We also designed a supporting leaflet that extends the interpretation beyond the site itself, offering additional context and helping visitors explore the history in greater depth.
All elements were developed to work within the character of the historic building, using robust materials and a restrained design approach to ensure clarity, durability and sensitivity to the setting.
